Research placement at IATA
22 June – 3 July 2015
Geneva, Switzerland

From 22 June to 3 July Volha has been on a research placement at the IATA office in Geneva, where she has been doing some preliminary work with the IATA Smart Security team, researching and discussing aspects of data-driven risk-based passenger differentiation (Smart Security is currently a joint programme between IATA and ACI: ).

The placement has allowed us to shape the scope and format of our research submission and of the research collaboration in general, which will last for a year and include a range of activities. The placement was funded through the ESRC Impact Acceleration Account funding, with a view to building a dialogue between research and scholarship on risk and security and the formulation of policies and programmes of risk-based security. It has afforded the opportunity for us to share the findings of the ‘Securing against Future Events’ project, and especially to explore how the technologies of risk-based border security relate to questions of aviation security.
